For nonprofits

A team of five technical students works on one problem of yours for a semester. We scope the problem with you before anyone starts building, and the work is pro bono.

How a problem becomes a project

  1. Understand

We start by understanding what's holding you back, what the data looks like, what has already been tried, and what success would actually mean for you.

  2. Scope

We then turn that understanding into a scoped problem that a team can finish in a semester.

  3. Match

Students apply, and we match them to projects by the specific skills the problem needs.

  4. Build

Fifteen hours a week, one team, one project. Past work includes fine-tuning a language model on domain-specific data, building a predictive model from years of untouched records, and replacing a spreadsheet-and-manual-effort pipeline with something that runs itself.

What you get back

Everything is open source from the first commit. In January and June, teams present to partners and sponsors. At the end of the semester, you get the code, the documentation, and a proper handover. Projects that need more time can run a second semester.

What we ask

A contact person who can give two hours a week of guidance, and a standing weekly check-in the whole way through, so the work stays anchored to what you need. Data access and direct costs (API fees, data licensing, that kind of thing) are also expected.

We are scoping projects now for the semester that runs 25 January to 28 May.
